Thermocouple Wire - Conductor Options

The more common conductors for medical thermocouple use are:

Type Positive Lead Negative Lead Comments
T Copper (Cu) Copper-Nickel (CuNi44) Good in moist environments, low temperature and cryogenic applications; highest accuracy, lowest strength
E Nickel-Chromium (NiCr10)    Copper-Nickel (CuNi44) Largest EMF µV/°C, greater strength than Type T but better accuracy than Type J and Type K
K Nickel-Chromium (NiCr10) Nickel-Aluminum-Silicon (NiMn2Al2Si)
(magnetic)
Largest temperature range, greatest strength at expense of accuracy
J Iron (Fe)
(magnetic)
Copper-Nickel (CuNi44) Not suited for low temperature applications
